How to Prepare for Furniture Collection & Delivery

Measure, confirm, clear the route. The three checks that stop a collection turning into a wasted trip.

Measure the item and the route

Get width, height and depth from the seller, then measure your narrowest doorway, stair turn and the room's own doorway. Marketplace listings frequently understate size, so ask for a photo with a tape measure if the item is borderline.

Confirm the collection details

Agree a collection window with the seller and make sure someone will be there. Settle payment for the item directly with them beforehand, and confirm whether they will help carry it out.

  • Seller's full address and contact number
  • Agreed collection window
  • Whether the item is upstairs at the collection end
  • Any dismantling the seller has or has not done

Clear the way at your end

Move cars off the drive, prop doors open, roll up rugs and clear the hallway. A clear route means the item goes straight in rather than being set down repeatedly.
